I came across this while searching for some of my medical school alumni classmates. My condolences to Alyssa and Arthur on this terrible loss. It’s not easy losing a loved one—especially a parent. I lost my father January 2018. I don’t know exactly what you all are going through, but I just want you all to know that you’re never alone and please reach out.

All of us in the Randolph-Macon College Class of 1978 loved Jan and will miss her.

After visiting our Aunt Audrey and Uncle John Murdock we learned of Jan's death. My sister, Diana, and I are extremely sorry for your families' loss. We remember Jan and Randy as teenagers who tolerated us kids and took us on dirt bike rides. Jan and Randy were so good to us And Doc and Ms.. Carter were the best when ever we visited their home. We loved when they would be at our Grandma Ward's house. We are sending our prayers to the entire Carter/Warren family. We know how hard it is to lose someone so dear, gracious and beautiful inside and out. Jenifer Ward Taylor J.Y. Ward's girls

Randy, Holding you and your family close in my heart. I remember her smile and her kindness. I guess I last chatted with her at our MA school wide class reunion. I remember she had not changed one bit. I am blessed to have known her.

Dr. Carter took care of my twins in the Cape Fear NICU for five and a half months. She was unfailingly optimistic on the darkest of days and told me many times that my babies would be fine despite the odds. She was right. She was never too busy to answer questions or to help soothe a fussy baby. Dr. Carter, thank you for being such a bright light in our tough times. We are so thankful for you.

it's great loss to every one. So compassionate and dedicated. She took care of our daughter in 2002. Our deepest condolences to her children and family.

Jan, I will always remember the long study sessions, fixing meals at Pelham Place. Your quick wit---- like the time your father was giving you a hard time about the Pharmacology exam and you said "well Dad there were only 3 drugs when you were in Vet. school!" I will always miss your smile and laughter.

I'm a Pediatrician in Fayetteville and Dr. carter took care of many of my patients. She was an incredible Neonatologist. She was one of the most caring physicians I have had the pleasure to know. It didn't matter what time of day I needed her to see a sick baby she always responded quickly and with a smile. She will be sorely missed. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I have know Jan for over 15 years as a colleague and as a friend. I have never known a more dedicated physician or a more heart warming friend. We cared for babies in the NICU together, and we vacationed in places like St Maarten together. Jan had such a quick and huge smile for everyone she talked to. At work she was the person that so many looked to in times of medical crisis, and at home she was the life of the party that kept everyone laughing. She was an absolute gift to this community and we all owe her a debt of gratitude. Those of us lucky enough to know her personally are saddened to our core to know she no longer shares the air we breathe. Goodbye Jan. I love you.

Jan, I hope you’re no longer in pain. I knew you in younger times when we were both classmates at Eastern Virginia Medical School. We both graduated in 1982 and we both went to pediatrics and joined the military. I will always remember you as a kind, compassionate, and sweet person with a perpetual smile. I have no doubts that you positively impacted all children that you cared for. You were always a bright light that everyone loved. God bless you, Jan, and also to your family and loved ones. I was so honored to have known you. I

Dr. Carter was a blessing to work with and learn from from the past 11 years. Her compassion for the babies will never be forgotten. Our hearts are full because we knew her. She was one the smartest and most fearless women I have ever met. I will miss her humor and her smile. She will forever be our angel. Cape Fear Valley NICU

Dr. Carter was a beautiful person inside and out. I had the opportunity to work with her in NICU. I gave hearing test to the babies. Dr. Carter was extremely passionate about her work and her babies. She will truly be missed, but forever in our hearts. Sleep in Heaven, Dr. Carter. We love you.

Randy, I am so sorry to hear about Jan. I remember our rides to and from basketball practice and always enjoyed the conversations. I remember Hastings working with her to make her a pitcher on the first softball team at MA. When I think back on CC and MA, Jan always came to mind. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, Helena
