Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

I was recently introduced to John by phone as a reference to information for my family (TW Greer). When we talked, I quickly understood what an intelligent and giving man he was. Without hesitation, he shared stories about my family from the research he had done over the years and didn't have to look up anything during our conversation. Afterward we exchanged a few emails containing more family information. My impression was that he was a man I would love to meet! Even though that is not possible now, I feel very honored to have spoken with this fine gentleman who was so kind and giving to me. Prayers for you, Mrs. Caknipe, and family.

Uncle John, You will be missed by many. I am going to miss your stories. You always had a welcoming smile for anyone that comes through your door. I still cherish being the first person you sold one of your books too.

John was larger than life but never forgot about his humble beginnings. The McKinneys were drawn to him by his love for Betty, grace for a stranger, joy of heart, and passion to serve others. Because of his enduring love of country, he lived with agent orange but never stopped serving. He truly lived life to its fullest. Uncle John was as much a part of us as any of our blood kin. His bear hugs will be missed, but his memories will live forever. We love you Betty and we loved your gentle warrior. What an example to live for...One last salute Sergeant McKinney!

John Caknipe, a true Renaissiance Man! A great supporter, upholder and promoter of our shared history. Through the years he was always willing to answer any question I had (especially about Mecklenburg County) and if he did not know the answer (which was a rare occasion) he sent me in the right direction. My thoughts are with Betty and his family. John, I am going to miss you friend and I am glad and feel privileged we got to work and do research.

John, I have admired and looked up to you since I was a little girl, even as I threw my horse at you because you were aggravating me, I loved you then, as I do now. So many wonderful memories of our childhood and my treasured Doll you sent me from Vietnam. Who does that during all the chaos that was going on, my brother thought of his mom and sister to send them both a doll from Vietnam, that I cherish today as I did then. I can't believe you are gone. I miss you so already. I Love you John. I will miss our phone calls, your stories, your guidance, your comfort. I know we all will see you again, till then, our Lord will care for you now. Many memories I will cling to forever of you, you will never ever be forgotten. My sweet wonderful brother. Your Sister, Ann
