My deepest condolences to Dan's family. I worked for Dan at Northampton public schools and he was a mentor and a friend. He was a good man who was there for me during a difficult time in my life. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Loved Ones, I knew Dan from his Chase City/Clarksville Days and remember hearing him sing on special occasions at Clarksville Baptist where I was the organist. He blessed us all with his musical talents and his calm and reassuring presence. I remember one occasion when I was teaching in South Hill/Buckhorn and returning to Clarksville after school one day, I hit a pothole and saw my hub cab in the rearview mirror bouncing across the road. Dan came by shortly, saw me searching and was the first one to come to my aid, helping to search for the wayward cover. This is just one little act of kindness and example of willingness to serve, but I will always be grateful for his presence that day. I know you are missing him tremendously, but he is at peace and rejoicing as never before. May the Lord give you comfort and strength to heal and carry on. Love to each one of you, Vicky Burnette

To the Harris family & church family. I am from West Virginia but visited my daughter in Cape Charles last summer for several weeks. While there I had the pleasure to visit Cheriton Baptist Church several times on Sunday and Rev Dans Bible study Wednesday nights. The first Sunday I was there he sang my favorite hymn.. Beulah Land . I’ve never heard it sang like that before. His heart & soul was definitely into it as was mine. Hallelujah! Rest In Peace Rev Dan

Becky: Haven’t had a chance to talk with you very much at church. As you know I just recently started playing the new piano at church. I was looking forward to playing some beautiful music with Dan. Since I just recently started attending Cheriton Baptist, I haven’t known Dan very long unfortunately. However, this time has been a blessing. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. It is a terrible loss for all of us also. Each time I have the honor of playing a song at church I will be thinking of Dan. My prayers are with you and your family.

Becky, Wes and I know the Lord has welcomed Dan with open arms. I can still recall him singing Beulah land at Cheriton. What a voice and gift he shared with us all. It's been nearly 8 years since we moved away to Missouri but Dan's memory is still with us, so upbeat and kind. I remember giving you and Dan some of our bedroom furniture before we moved away. Dan gave us more than we could ever give back. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our prayers go to you as you learn just how much Jesus loves you in your time of sorrow. Kathleen

Our condolences to Becky and Family. Dan was our neighbor always there to help or chat. Our dog Gunner met Dan when he was a puppy and would have to stop at his house every day to play and get petted. We will miss Dan. Here Becky if you need anything.

I may have only known Dan for two years or so. He loved God, knew Jesus and his bible. I loved hearing him sing especially with Becky. My family and I will miss him greatly. This is a tremendous loss for us but an incredible victory for Dan because he is home with our father in Heaven. And we are so blessed to know we will see him again❤️🙏

My Dad was the Pastor at Black Branch Baptist 1982-1985. Then we would come back for Homecoming as often as we could. I tried to come as often as I could, and enjoyed hearing Dan sing when he would. His whole family has been like family to us since 1982. We love you.

Becky, You have my deepest sympathy and prayers. So sorry to hear about Dan. Chase City was my home before South Boston and my sister Becky went to school with Dan. I think a lot of Virginia and Ruth, I see them when I visit Black Branch Church. May God be with you during this time.

My thoughts and prayers to all those who knew and loved Dan. I am so deeply saddened by the news of his passing. "The song is ended, but the melody lingers on." (Irving Berlin) May his memory comfort you during this difficult time. With love and prayers, Wanda

As the moving tribute aptly stated, Dan was a deeply religious man whose faith and testimony through his musical gifts lifted all who were fortunate enough to be around him. But, it was through his everyday life - as a husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, neighbor - that his true nature shone. He took time with people to listen, to care, to truly get to know people. The world benefited greatly from his kindness and his talents. May we all carry a piece of his legacy forward in our daily lives, and may we wrap his family, especially sweet Becky, in love and comfort.
