Sad to hear of the tragic loss of one of my former students. He definitely left his mark on the world. Larry

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Carey family today. Still trying to get our head around this terrible tragedy. Joe was such a kind, generous soul - I'll never forget how good he was to our Mom. He was always there to lend help to anyone who needed it. Sending love and hugs to Beverly, the kids, all who had the privilege of knowing Joe. We know you've gained your wings - fly high dear friend.

Joe made every person feel special. I first met him when I was 19- I believe I told him her needed to let my daddy teach him how to grow tobacco. Decades later my daddy would become an outspoken campaigner for Joe and a lifelong friend. He never failed to wish me a happy birthday. We didn't always agree politically but it didn't affect the friendship - that's the way Joe rolled. Charlotte county will miss this outspoken supporter of the people and the land. Heartfelt condolences to his beautiful family.

What a great guy. One of the first people I met after moving here from NY 16 years ago. Made me feel so welcome. Always a smile and pleasant conversation. Never too busy to say hello. Could not stop "bragging" about his family, especially his bride. He was just so proud and probably the most contented person I've ever known. RIP Joe. You will be so missed by all. Prayers to his family and friends.

It is so incredibly hard to have to say goodbye to this kind and generous man. He went above and beyond his duty as a police officer and never missed an opportunity to help anyone in need. He has left an incredible legacy to those of us whose lives he touched, a hole in our hearts that can never be filled and he showed us the true meaning of grace. Rest easy, Joe, you have indeed earned your crown. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family tonight and in the days ahead. May God wrap his arms around you and give you peace and comfort 🙏

My heart "aches and grieves" knowing such a caring friend, and police officer (one of the BEST) is no longer here with us. Joe had a heart of gold and loved his family & friends so very much. To Joey...your dad was such a "special" person and I am blessed to have known him through you. My many thoughts, tears, and prayers are with you, your mother, your daughter, and the rest of your family. I just still can't believe it! Much love, Shirley

Joe will be missed in our little town of Brodnax. He was a caring and friendly person. I am sorry for the loss of a person that never had met a stranger.

Chief was a longtime patient of mine. He always said nice things about me and was always a favorite in our office. He was happy and kind and generous. I would stop and talk with him in Brodnax when I’d see him and had the chance. I was shocked and so sad when I heard the news. He will live through our memories and stories and tears and laughter. Sending peace and love to the family.
