Elwood T. Blackwell, 92, of Chase City, died January 13, 2013. He was a WWII Army Air Corp. veteran, a 68 year member of American Legion Post # 43, an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as trustee-emeritus, and a retired employee of Mecklenburg Electric Co-op. He was the widower of Nancy Smith Blackwell and preceded in death by his siblings, Leslie Blackwell, Janie B. Harris, Elbert Blackwell (twin) and Doris B. Bradsher. He is survived by his son, Neal Blackwell of Centreville; brother, A. J. Blackwell of Oxford; sisters, Lena Mae Brownd and Marie Lewis of Raleigh. Friends may call at Wood Funeral Service 7:00-8:30 Tuesday evening. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Oxford, NC at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 206 East Second St., Chase City, VA 23924.
