Susan Lynn Nixon passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016 in Bridgeport, CT with her son and mother at her side. Susan was born March 3, 1956 in Farmville, VA to Charles Bartlett and Zella Scruggs Bartlett. She is predeceased by her father, Charles Bartlett and her ex husband, Thomas “Doc” Nixon and is survived by her son, Randolph (Randy) Thomas Nixon and her mother, Zella Scruggs Fencl, step children, Emily Nixon Roberts and Capt. Thomas (Trey) Nixon, US Army, aunts, Ann Critzer (Dennis) and Shirley Melton, a sister by choice, Binnie Kirshenbaum of New York City and a number of cousins and faithful friends as well as her beloved cat, “Doppleganger.” Susan was a graduate of St. Catherine’s Prep School in Richmond and received her Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in New York City and her Masters degree of Fine Arts from Brooklyn City College in New York City. She was an English Professor at Norwalk Community College in Connecticut for 23 years, a published author as well as a Connecticut Statewide union official. She was a member of Farmville Baptist Church, Mecklenburg Country Club as well as many organizational educations groups in Connecticut. Susan loved her small close knit family, her job, her kitty and she was an avid golfer. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Service. Chase City. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice. Donations may be made to Mecklenburg County Cancer Association, PO Box 311, Chase City, VA 23924.
