Madelene T. Spain Moore, 89, of Skipwith, passed away on March 23, 2017. She was the widow of Elmer F. Spain and James B. Moore. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Florence Toombs, son, Willie Spain, brothers, Thomas “Jack” Toombs, Ernest Jr, and sister, Edith Warren. Madelene was a retired dispatcher for the Town of Chase City, a member of Public Fork Christian Church, Charter member, past president and faithful member of Chase City Rescue Squad Auxiliary. Madelene is survived by her son, Floyd Spain and wife Pat of Skipwith, daughter, Beverly S. Newcomb and husband L.H. of Columbus Ohio, sisters, Charlotte Reese of Chase City, Agnes Brankley of Richmond, Evelyn Ellington of Chase City, sister in law, Sue Toombs of Red Oak, grandchildren, Rodney Newcomb, Angie Newcomb, Christy Wilson, Kenny Lewis, Kendele Underwood, great grandchildren, Peyton, Breanna, Danielle, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Noah, Matt, Taylynn, Amanda, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday evening 6:00 – 8:00 at Wood Funeral Service. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Public Fork Christian Church with Denis Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chase City Vol. Fire Department, P.O. Box 595, Chase City, VA, or Public Fork Christian Church, 1700 Jeb Stuart Highway, Red Oak, VA 23964. Wood Funeral Service is serving the family.
