Derek L. Taylor, age 69, of Boydton, Virginia (formerly of Frisco, NC), passed away on April 27, 2023. Derek graduated from Williamston High School (1971) in Williamston, North Carolina, and North Carolina State University (1975). He was a retired textile engineer with Milliken & Company, O’Mara Inc., and boat captain of Carolina Girl Charters. After retirement, Derek and Jean moved back to Boydton, VA. Derek was an active member of Easters Hunt Club and Mecklenburg Country Club, which allowed him to celebrate his passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved to be on the course or on the water. He attended Salem Methodist Church. Derek was the son of the late Burroughs Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Jean Mull Taylor; daughter, Jennifer Taylor Wagner (David); son, Brian Taylor (Danielle); grandsons, Kader Taylor (7), Samuel Wagner (6), and Finley Taylor (5). He is also survived by his mother, Dannette Bailey Taylor; brothers, Merritt Taylor (Pam) and Bert Mull (Tammy); nieces, Megan Gardner (Jim), Lisa Tant (Aaron), and Mandy Keel (Eric); nephew, Josh Mull (Allison); and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and many more dear cousins, family, and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Salem Methodist Church, 13550 Highway 47, Chase City, VA, 23924. The family will receive guests at the church immediately following the service and at their Easters Road home over the next few days. Interment will be private.
