Harold Thomas Harris, age 89, of Boydton went to be with Jesus on May 20, 2024.

Mr. Harris was the Sheriff of Mecklenburg County from 1973 to 1990 when he retired after 30 years of service with the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia State Sheriff’s Association.

The son of the late James Berkley Harris and Bertha Agnes Harris, Mr. Harris is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Louise Lewis Harris; devoted sons, Harold T. “Tom” Harris, Jr., (Gail) and Michael L. Harris (Theresa). Mr. Harris is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth Harris, Michelle Lenhart (Zach), Christina Harris, and Timothy Harris; as well as 2 great grandchildren, Paul and Jude Lenhart. Mr. Harris was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Gayle Harris. He is also survived by his sisters Laverne Cauthorne and Catherine Kiiffner, and a brother, William P. Burton, Jr.

A man of country wisdom and tender feelings, Mr. Harris had a profound influence on all of his family and those who worked with him at the Sheriff’s Office. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him, including many members of the Boydton community who helped care for him in his later years. A special thanks to the caregivers who were of great comfort and support to him in his home. He loved them all dearly.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Service Chapel with interment following at Easters United Methodist Church Cemetery.
