Charles Duckworth, age 94, a longstanding pillar of the Chase City community and
devout family man, departed this life on June 6, 2024. Born into this world on
September 17, 1929, in the very same town, Charles led a life marked by unwavering
service, commitment to his faith, and an unabashed love for his family and friends.
The Duckworth family patriarch leaves behind his cherished wife Bettie Young
Duckworth, his devoted children LeAnne Duckworth Lavenets, Tina Paige Duckworth
Mayes, and Douglas Charles Duckworth, as well as his sister Jeanette Duckworth
Wilborn. His life’s narrative will be carried on through the stories of his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched with joy and steadfast guidance.
He joins in eternal rest his first wife Nell Breedlove Duckworth, his parents Odes and
Effie Wagner Duckworth, and his brothers Wagner and Odes Duckworth, who preceded
him in their journey to everlasting peace.
In his professional life, Charles was honored as a respected retail merchant, a member
and Deacon of the First Baptist Church, and an invaluable contributor to various local
associations and civic bodies, not the least of which included his remarkable 20-year
tenure as Mayor of Chase City—a role in which he served with dignity and integrity.
An exemplar aviator and enthusiast, Charle’s love for the skies was unwavering and
mirrored only by his passion for boating, gardening, and golfing. His legacy as a pilot is
indelible, distinguished by over 3,000 hours of service as a trusted and skilled pilot,
culminating in his induction into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame.
The Duckworth family cordially extends an invitation to friends and acquaintances to
partake in the visitation at First Baptist Church, 206 E. Second St. Chase City, Va. commencing at 2:00 pm this Sunday,
June 9, 2024, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm. The final earthly
commendation will take place at Woodland Cemetery where Charles shall be laid to
rest.
In remembrance of Charles’ benevolent spirit, memorial contributions are welcomed at
The Pantry, c/o Black Branch Baptist Church, 3370 Highway 47, Chase City, Va. 23924. The Duckworths express their gratitude to
Wood Funeral Service of Chase City for their compassionate support during this solemn
time.
May Charles Duckworths memory be a benediction to all who had the honor of crossing
his path, and may he find eternal tranquility in the firmament above.
