Jennifer Hudson, age 57, passed away at her home surrounded by those she loved on June 21, 2014. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through her battles with cancer over the last few years.
Jennifer thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisher and horse enthusiast. She also passionately served as the Coordinator of the Freeland 4-H Shooting Club for 9 years. She was so proud of all of the kids that were part of the 4-H Shooting Team and was honored to share her love and knowledge of shooting with them. Jennifer also served as Vice President of Arrowhead Gun Club in Chase City, Va.
Jennifer was the postmaster in Baskerville and worked for the United States Postal System for 31 years. During this time, she became a beacon of support in the Baskerville community, helping countless neighbors and friends in any way that she could. Jennifer’s strong desire to help others will always be remembered.
Jennifer is predeceased by her father, Howard Cassada and her mother, Naomi Skinner and is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Norman Hudson. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Shepard (Sarah) Hudson, Nolan Hudson, Kathy (Jay) Tollison, and Craig Hudson, her granddaughter, Stella Hudson, her brothers, Chris (Pam) Cassada, Bob (Charlotte) Cassada, her sister, Cassie Cassada, her favorite aunts, Emily (Lloyd) Swelnis and Bettie (John) Telepo, her niece, Bailey Cassada, her nephews, Alex Cassada, Carter (April) Cassada and Gray Cassada, her favorite fishing buddy, Billy (Sandra) Kinker, her extended second family, Debra (Jimmy) Thompson, William (Janice) Lewis, Jaimee (Allen) Elliott and countless others who were touched by her love over the years.
A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Jarrell and Pastor Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive guests after the service in the Fellowship Hall. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at the Hudson Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Freeland 4-H Shooting Club, 2599 Trinity Church Road, South Hill, VA 23970, CMH Community Hospice, PO Box 90, 300 East Ferrell Street, South Hill, VA 23970, or the Hudson Family Cemetery Fund (same address as Freeland 4-H Shooting Club).
