Elizabeth Moss Childress, 96, of Chase City, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024. She worked as a matron for the Richmond City Jail, and at the Virginia Home & Industrial School for Girls in Bon Air, and retired from Mecklenburg Correctional Center. She was a life-time member of the Manchester Rescue Squad in Chesterfield, Virginia as well as the Chase City Rescue Squad where she served for 40+ years. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Morgan Ryan, and her son Barry Lee Morgan. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Chase City, Virginia. She loved to spend time with her family. She thought the world of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Linda “Bitsy” Childress Jennings and husband, John Jennings; her son, William “Sonny” Morgan and wife, Tan Morgan; her daughter-in law, Shirley Morgan; her grandchildren, Melissa Jennings Winnie, and husband, Charles “Butch” Winnie, Brian Scott Jennings, Jon Morgan and wife, Marissa Morgan, and Jason Morgan; her great-grandchildren, Austin Charles Winnie, Brittany Elizabeth Winnie, and Bradley Scott Jennings; and sister, Lavonia Whitlow. She was so proud of all their accomplishments. “Nannie” will always be remembered and will forever be loved. The family will have a private grave side service.
