Betty Snipes Chumney

Mrs. Bessie (Betty) Snipes Chumney, age 89, passed away May 9, 2024. Betty was the widow of Walter Harold Snipes. She was married for several years to Walter R. (Sonny) Chumney. She was a retired Accounting Supervisor who enjoyed working at Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative. She also enjoyed traveling, seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved being outside working around the yard and viewing the birds and all wildlife. Betty was known for her famous Chocolate Meringue Pies and telling her children she was “Dutch Irish”, and she was proud of that heritage. She was a member of Hebron Church in Wylliesburg, VA. Betty is survived by her daughter, Zoe Snipes Cobb (Doug) of North Chesterfield, VA; her son Leonard Harold Snipes of Forest, VA; her sister-in-law, Audrey Bailey of Wylliesburg VA; and her sister-in-law, Anne S. Owen of Chase City VA; grandchildren, Danny Newton, Adrienne C. Laurie (Adam); great grandchildren, Isabella Newton and Declan Newton of Boydton, VA, Joseph Laurie and Hailey Laurie of Chesterfield, VA. Betty Snipes Chumney is predeceased by Walter Harold Snipes, Michael Anthony Newton, Kristi Nicole Cobb, Hugh (Dick) Bailey, Ruth Hughes, Margaret Jones, and Walter R. (Sonny Chumney). The family is grateful for the care given to Betty by Chase City Health and Rehab Center. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held May 13, 2024, at Wood Funeral Service. Visitation will begin at 1 PM and the Funeral Service will begin at 2 PM. Burial will be at Hebron Church in Wylliesburg, VA. Wood Funeral Service is serving the family.
